WP Sheet Editor alternative: spreadsheet or category panel?
WP Sheet Editor is a family of plugins made by VegaCorp. Each content type gets its own “sheet”: one for WooCommerce products, one for categories, tags and attributes, others for posts, orders or users. You load rows, edit cells or run formulas over hundreds of rows, then save. The free versions are widely used: the products plugin, according to its WordPress.org listing, has more than 10,000 active installations and an average rating of 4.9 out of 5 from 228 reviews.
EHERO Woo Categories is not a spreadsheet. It is a panel inside WordPress with one tab per category task: remove, add or replace a category on many products, merge categories, copy the products of one category into another, assign categories by rules, find duplicates, move subcategories, set image and description in bulk, redirects, and a history to undo. It does not touch prices, stock or attributes.
In practice: if your job is editing lots of data on lots of products, a spreadsheet is the natural tool. If what you have is a messy category tree (after an import, a seasonal change or years of adding categories with no plan), a dedicated panel saves steps and lets you roll back.
And before installing anything: WooCommerce’s built-in bulk edit already lets you add categories to several products at once. What it won’t do is remove them: untick a category there and the products keep it (we tested it with current WordPress and WooCommerce, September 2026). To add a category to a dozen products, that may be all you need.

One detail the table can’t show: in WP Sheet Editor, category work is split across two separate paid extensions. The products sheet changes which categories each product has; the categories, tags and attributes sheet merges, moves and edits the categories themselves. They are sold separately or in a bundle with all their sheets.
Why people look for a WP Sheet Editor alternative
Its negative reviews on WordPress.org and its own documentation point to three reasons. None of them makes it a bad plugin, but they explain why it doesn’t suit some stores.
The free version doesn’t edit product categories
The free products plugin edits title, description, SKU, stock and prices; product categories are listed among the premium features. The free categories and tags plugin works the same way: blog categories and tags are free, product categories are paid.
That is what the one-star reviews are about. As of 17 September 2026, all six on the products plugin and all three on the categories plugin make the same complaint: the free version does very little and the useful parts are paid. They are few next to the 215 five-star reviews of the products plugin, but they hit exactly the part that matters for categories.
EHERO Woo Categories isn’t free either, and it’s worth being clear about it: there is no free version. It costs €29.99 a year per domain, with every feature included and no separate add-ons.
There is no undo button
Its own documentation says so: WP Sheet Editor saves changes as soon as you click save and has no undo option. It recommends a full backup or a CSV export before editing, so you can restore if something goes wrong.
That is sound advice. The catch is that category mistakes tend to show up later: you merge two categories that weren’t really the same, or pull products out of a category they belonged to. In EHERO Woo Categories every bulk operation goes into a history that keeps the last 50, and you undo from there: products get their previous categories back and deleted categories are recreated. A backup is still a good idea, but you don’t have to restore the whole site over a category mistake.
Merging categories also removes URLs
When you merge, the source categories disappear, and so do their URLs. If Google had them indexed or other sites linked to them, they now return a 404. For URLs that change for good, Google recommends permanent server-side redirects.
WP Sheet Editor’s merge guide explains how to combine categories with its tool, but says nothing about redirects. EHERO Woo Categories stores a 301 redirect every time it deletes a category: when merging, to the target category; when cleaning up empty categories, to the parent category or, if there isn’t one, to the shop. You can review them, delete them or switch the feature off from its redirects tab.

- It works with any taxonomy. Tags, attributes and third-party taxonomies, and it converts terms from one to another, such as tags into categories.

If you already own both of its paid sheets and you’re comfortable in a spreadsheet, switching gains you little. What you’d miss is the undo history and the redirects, and you can cover those with backups and a redirects plugin.
