An online store in Spain costs between €1,000 and more than €15,000 to set up, plus a monthly expense that many quotes leave out: the platform, hosting, fees on every sale, and maintenance.
In this guide we compare what it costs to build and keep a store open on WooCommerce, Shopify, and PrestaShop, using the official rates checked on November 5, 2026, and a three-year example. Prices exclude VAT.
The short answer
- A store you build yourself on Shopify or with a WooCommerce template: almost no setup cost, but many hours of your own time.
- A template-based store set up by a professional: $1,000 to $3,000.
- A custom store, with its own design and tested payments, shipping, and taxes: €3,000 to €10,000.
- Large projects, with ERP, multiple languages, B2B, or thousands of products: €10,000 to €30,000 or more.
Each month, on top of that, expect €30 to €400 for the platform, hosting, apps, and maintenance, plus sales fees.
What it costs to set up
| Type of store | What it usually includes | Typical price |
|---|---|---|
| Template-based store | Purchased theme, up to 50-100 products uploaded, basic payments and shipping | €1,000 – €3,000 |
| Custom store | Custom design, well-crafted product pages, taxes, carriers, technical SEO, legal | €3,000 – €10,000 |
| Store with integrations | Connection to ERP or warehouse, marketplaces, multiple languages or currencies | €8,000 – €20,000 |
| Large or B2B project | Customer-specific pricing, recurring orders, catalog of thousands of SKUs | €15,000 – €30,000+ |
Market ranges in Spain, excluding VAT.
What It Costs Each Month
| Item | Typical Cost |
|---|---|
| Platform (Shopify) | From €24 to €384 per month depending on the plan |
| Hosting (WooCommerce or PrestaShop) | €10 – €40 per month |
| Paid apps or plugins | €0 – €100 per month |
| Payment gateway fee | Around 1.5% – 2.1% of each sale, plus a few cents per transaction |
| Maintenance | €50 – €300 per month |
WooCommerce, Shopify, or PrestaShop
Shopify charges a monthly fee. These are its rates in euros, according to its website as of November 5, 2026:
| Plan | Monthly payment | Annual payment | Online cards | With another gateway |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | €32/month | €24/month | 2.1% + €0.30 | +2% |
| Grow | €92/month | €69/month | 1.8% + €0.30 | +1% |
| Advanced | €384/month | €289/month | 1.6% + €0.30 | +0.6% |
The last column is the extra charge Shopify applies if you don’t use its gateway, Shopify Payments.
WooCommerce and PrestaShop are free software that you install on your own hosting. They charge no fee or commission per sale: you pay for the hosting, the payment plugins or modules you use, and the gateway. Stripe, for example, publishes 1.5% + €0.25 for standard cards from the European Economic Area. With your bank’s POS terminal (Redsys), you negotiate the commission with the bank.
| WooCommerce | Shopify | PrestaShop | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Platform fee | No | Yes, monthly | No |
| The store is yours | Yes, code and data | The data, yes; the store lives on Shopify | Yes, code and data |
| Technical maintenance | You or someone else does it | Shopify does it | You or someone else does it |
| Changing whatever is needed | Everything | Within what Shopify and its apps allow | Everything |
| Best suited for | Stores with content, SEO, and their own specific needs | Getting started quickly without touching anything technical | Large catalogs and those already working with PrestaShop |
An Example Over Three Years
A small store that sells 1,000 orders a year at €50: €50,000 in sales. Platform, hosting, and payment fees only, with no setup or maintenance:
| Each year | Shopify Basic (annual payment) | WooCommerce + Stripe |
|---|---|---|
| Platform or hosting | €288 | €250 |
| Card payment fees | €1,350 | €1,000 |
| Total per year | €1,638 | €1,250 |
| Over three years | €4,914 | €3,750 |
The difference grows with sales, because fees are a percentage. But WooCommerce needs someone to update and monitor it, and that has a cost, in money or in your time. Honest math adds up both.
What Drives the Price Up
- The number of products and variants, especially if they have to be uploaded by hand or the catalog needs cleaning up.
- Taxes and shipping. Selling to other EU countries, to the Canary Islands, or with the equivalence surcharge makes the setup more complicated.
- Integrations with the ERP, the warehouse, a wholesaler, or marketplaces.
- Languages, with catalog translation and SEO for each one.
- What the platform doesn’t include out of the box: subscriptions, bundles, product customization, per-customer pricing.
- Coming from another store. Moving products, customers, orders, and redirects is a project in itself: we explain it in migrating from PrestaShop to WooCommerce and migrating from Shopify to WooCommerce.
What Gets Forgotten in the Quote
- Photos and descriptions. Without them nothing sells, and someone has to create them.
- Legal texts: terms of sale, returns, privacy, and cookies.
- Real test purchases with every payment method and every shipping zone.
- Training so you can upload products and manage orders yourself.
- SEO and advertising to bring in visitors. Opening the store doesn’t bring customers on its own: we cover it in how much SEO for an online store costs.
What we charge
- Custom WooCommerce store: from €2,000, at a fixed price. Custom design, payments, shipping, and taxes tested with real purchases, and the store in your name, with no lock-in contract.
- PrestaShop store: from €2,000, on PrestaShop 8 or 9, with the first year of hosting included.
- Maintenance and support: €300 per month with 5 hours of technical work, with no lock-in contract.
Prices do not include VAT. Integrations and large projects are quoted after we review them, with the fixed price in writing.
